Litchfield Beach (or any beach) is a great place to gather to catch up on all the happenings of the past year. I like to think these ladies are doing just that while taking in their surroundings. This piece is 9" x 12" on Wallis paper.
The inspiration for the name comes from the stone, lapis lazuli. Lapis is a royal blue colored stone with inclusions of golden pyrite. It is said to help connect the mind to the emotions of the heart. When both aspects are working in unison, the creative force within is at its peak and your best work will be done.

I am a pastel artist living in North Carolina. As an artist my interest and goal is to recreate in two dimensions what I see and feel in the world around me. The play of light and shadow is often a pull to paint a particular scene. I choose to work in pastel as I like its immediacy, the freshness and pure color it allows. The colors don't fade. It can be worked quickly, but reworked if I change my mind. My background is that I have been a medical artist for almost twenty years. With the medium of pastel, the larger sticks help translate into a more loose interpretation of what I am seeing.
